The Washington Spirit currently stand at fifth place on the NWSL table, having won only one of their most recent NWSL Challenge Cup matches against the Kansas City Current thanks to goals by Ouleymata Sarr and the team’s star player and USA international, Trinity Rodman. The Spirit’s record in the last five games have been 1-2-2.
On the other hand, the onward trajectory of the North Carolina looks bright as Denise O’Sullivan’s team currently find themselves in the top three teams on the NWSL table after the Portland Thorns and the San Diego Wave. The North Carolina Courage have only lost one match in the past month. The Courage’s record in the last five games have been 2-1-2.
On a different note, October 15 will see Irish internationals Denise O’Sullivan, the captain of the North Carolina Courage play against World Cup and Nations League B teammate Marissa Sheva who plays for the Washington Spirit. Outside of the NWSL, O’Sullivan has played exceptionally, scoring a goal against Hungary in the Nations League against Hungary as well as providing several assists against Northern Ireland. It is clear that North Carolina’s captain is in fighting shape for the NWSL.
The game will be an interesting one as the two sides have not faced off in three months when the Washington Spirit played the North Carolina Courage on July 23. The match amassed a massive score for the North Carolina side ending in a 6-0 win against Washington DC, including a goal scored by Brittany Ratcliffe, with the main photo seen above.
