Tuesday night will see Guadalajara face Mazatlan F.C. in a Liga MX Apertura matchup with big implications for both clubs. A win for the hosts could see them move ahead of either Pumas, Atlas or Juarez in their continued bid to secure a Final Series spot rather than settle for a play-off position. The visitors, meanwhile, require a victory to maintain their dimming chances of slipping into the last play-off spot.

Guadalajara have not benefited from their recent run of form. An embarrassing 4-0 loss to Club America in the El Super Clasico was preceded by two other losses out of their previous four fixtures. At 4-2-3 in the Apertura table, Chivas need a strong outing to convince their supporters that a Final Series run is not out of reach.

Mazatlan, like their hosts, are not playing well at the moment. Their most recent game saw them travel to San Luis for what ended up being a tough 3-2 loss. Before that, a draw with Cruz Azul and a defeat at Juarez dogged this bottom-half-of-the-table squad. An away win against a potential Final Series outfit would go a long way to salvaging their Apertura campaign.

Chivas will look for their goals from experienced attacker Alexis Vega. The 25-year-old is a talented forward/winger that also represents the Mexican National Team. He has been a Liga MX All-Star the past two campaigns and will need to be at his highest level to get his club the full three points.

For Mazatlan, the experienced goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez will be tasked with keeping the opposing attackers from reaching the back of the net while his outfield teammates fight to score. The 33-year-old has played for five Liga MX clubs during a career over which he has won many different domestic and continental titles.
