From 1 Final 4 to the Next
When Tyler Buchner left Notre Dame for Alabama, I was of the mindset of, “I wish him the best”. He clearly had the respect of his teammates despite not living up to the hype as QB1 of the future. He was given the option to return to Notre Dame after entering the portal, but I never thought he would actually come back in. Alabama was a shocking decision, but ultimately paid off through NIL and helping Alabama in a scout team role to close out the year.
I was curious where he would end up post Alabama, but absolutely did not have on my bingo card that he would end up back at ND, but as a lacrosse player. As he announced this, I was curious if this was more of a way to stay in shape, be in an competitive environment, and eventually return to football elsewhere. While that still may be in the cards, Buchner has casually carved out a role for the #1 Lacrosse team into the country heading into the final 4 this weekend. Pat Kavanagh highlighted how he has come along throughout the course of the year below.

He’s an insane athlete and he just keeps getting better at lacrosse” ~ @pkavv88 #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/XcssPbjoSN

While he is by no means a star, Buchner has found himself in a rotational role, playing meaningful minutes in the last 6 games through the ACC tournament and into the NCAA tournament. As a casual lacrosse fan, he has looked effective as a defensive midfielder, and looks physical at the point of attack.

Honestly, I want to highlight just how incredible this is. To go from not playing competitive lacrosse in years to playing in the final 4 on the best team in the country is a testament to his confidence, overall athleticism, and determination. He has also clearly been embraced with open arms by the Notre Dame community as a whole. Buchner is easy to root for, and I find myself searching for #12 during every game.
GO IRISH!
