Hello new guy
The Notre Dame football roster is full of great players — known and unknown. No matter the place on the depth chart or the recruiting ranking a player had attached to him before his arrival at Notre Dame — there are probably some things I really like about him. So over the course of the next few months, let’s take a positive approach to running down the roster.
Almost daily (just being honest) I’ll list three things I like about a single player on the roster, and as an additional bonus, I’ll post some extra pics over on the OFD Instagram account (be sure to follow RIGHT HERE).
Next up…
#7 Jalen Stroman — Safety
The 6’1” 204 pound senior from Patriot High School in Bristow, Virginia, comes to Notre Dame from the Virginia Tech Hokies via the transfer portal. Stroman missed almost all of the 2024 season, and he’s not only looking for a fresh start — he’s looking to do it for a team that will contend for the playoffs and more.
Here are three things I like about Jalen Stroman:
1. There is production to be had.
Stroman played in 36 games for the Hokies and in those 36 games he compiled 111 tackles from the safety position. 36 games and he has yet to pull down an interception. Why do I like that? Well… because I think Stroman will eventually pull down a couple for the Irish and that’ll be fun to celebrate.
2. He has good taste.
While Jalen Stroman will wear #7 on his Notre Dame jersey, he was #26 during his previous 4 years at Virginia Tech. With Tyler Buchner still owning that particular number, Stroman opted for #7. That tells me he’s a blessed #26 DB in his heart (Greg Flammang and I are in that club) and he will likely see some special teams time. I’m good with that explanation.

3. We possibly can’t miss.
The hit rate for Notre Dame and its defensive backs out of the transfer portal is pretty good. Although we’re not talking about superstar status, the players have been very productive and key contributors to the defense. This bodes well for Stroman and the Irish.
