A dominant performance, a rain delay, and some festering thoughts
Usher 800? Is that you?
I was not at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish game against Stanford on Saturday, but I was at the 2011 USF game. So, I feel like we all had an overreaction to the lightning delay, which our minds immediately jump to that awful day 13 years ago.
We’re back with some more overreactions. In a 49-7 rout, it’s a bit tough to get some insane overreactions, but some takes were definitely still thrown out there. There aren’t that many that I could choose from, so I’m counting our collective residual hate of a lightning delay. Here are some favorites that I found.
ND vs. Trees: Overreactions
Weird, a Marcus Freeman coached team is unprepared to play at home against a weak opponent. pic.twitter.com/Z3KhYggL4x

This aged like milk that was 3 years old already. I get that the start was flat, but when the final score is 49-7 with Freeman now being 4-0 after bye weeks, I think they were prepared. A classic overreaction to a game 15 real time minutes old, a move I have made many times in my life.
Did we look good today? Yes.
Can we pass the ball? Still no.
It’s a difficult time to get excited I’ll be honest.

I have to disagree on passing the ball. Yeah, Riley isn’t perfect, and those short throw misses are infuriating. But people have to change their attitudes from the first couple games of the season. It was a bad team the Irish played, but they moved the ball (especially through the air) very well on Saturday. See stats below, too. I’m excited for an absolute rout of a team that we all probably despise more than we should. I had fun on Saturday.
Since the interception against NIU, Riley Leonard is 60/86 passing (70%), 658 yards, 7.7 yards per attempt, 6 touchdowns, 0 interceptions.
He’s also run for 326 yards and 7 touchdowns in that span. Numbers aren’t eye popping, but he’s clearly a different guy. pic.twitter.com/l8PbD7BP66
