Too early? NEVER!
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a big win on Saturday by taking down the Louisville Cardinals. Although we are still weeks away from the college football playoff rankings, it’s never too early to start looking at the positioning of it all. Despite the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll having no official place with the College Football Playoff rankings, it’s a good enough litmus test until we get there.
So how did the Irish opponents do this week?
#25 Texas A&M Aggies — WON vs Arkansas Razorbacks (4-1) —
Northern Illinois — LOST vs South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2) —
Purdue Boilermakers — LOST vs Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-3) —
Miami Redhawks — WON vs UMass Minutemen (1-3) —
#22 Louisville Cardinals — LOST vs Notre Dame (3-1) —
Stanford Cardinal — LOST vs Clemson Tigers (2-2) —
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets — BYE (3-2) —
Navy Midshipmen — WON vs UAB (4-0) —
Florida State Seminioles — LOST vs SMU Mustangs (1-4) —
Virginia Cavaliers — BYE (3-1) —
Army Black Knights — WON vs Temple Owls (4-0) —
#11 USC Trojans — WON vs Wisconsin Badgers (3-1) —
There wasn’t a huge shift in the rankings this week, but the Irish continue the slow march towards the top ten with each win.
The main goal right now is for the Irish to have a chance to host a playoff game. They’re going to need at least an 8 seed to do that — and they’ll need some help along the way.
