Finishing Saturday in style
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish rallied after a second-period power play goal for a 5-2 victory against the Clarkson Golden Knights Saturday in Potsdam, New York. Irish netminder Nicholas Kempf notched 30 saves in his collegiate debut.
Game Summary: Notre Dame, 5-Clarkson, 2
First Period
The Golden Knights set the tone from the puck drop, and got on the board about four minutes in with a goal from Jared Mangan. A hooking call on Clarkson’s Garrett Dahm soon followed, but the Irish failed to capitalize on the power play. The Golden Knights surged at the Irish net as the period neared its halfway point, and Kempf made five saves in about three and half minutes. Clarkson’s Talon Sigurdson and Notre Dame’s Cole Knuble headed to the box for roughing after some extracurriculars at the Golden Knights’ net. With nearly a minute and a half to go in the opening period, Clarkson’s Tristan Sarsland found the back of the net to bring it to 2-0, Golden Knights. By the end of the first, the Golden Knights outshot the Irish 10-7.
Second Period
The two squads traded a few penalties, but it was a power play goal with less than a minute to go in the second from Knuble that set the tone in favor of the Irish for the remainder of the game.

Third Period
Irish defenseman Michael Mastrodomenico tied it up for his team early on in the third, and after nearly half a period of back and forth, Notre Dame’s Hunter Strand scored to give his team the lead. Danny Nelson scored to further extend the Irish advantage less than two minutes later. With both teams fired up, Clarkson’s Mangan and Notre Dame’s Henry Nelson headed to the box for roughing, but once back to even strength, Justin Janicke gave the Irish the last word with a fifth goal in the final minutes. This time around, the Irish outshot the Golden Knights 12-11 and the night ended 5-2, Irish.
