Ouch
Last week was unbearably rough as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lost to NIU at home — and looked incompetent in a number of areas while doing it. The Irish will look to change the direction of its season along with the hearts of Notre Dame football fans this week against the Purdue Boilermakers, but the whole experience has been athletically traumatic for a lot of die-hards.
In a recent SBN Reacts survey, Notre Dame fans said the Irish loss to NIU was the most embarrassing loss for them over the past 25 years (which is really saying something).
College football fans from all over the country definitely think that the Northern Illinois game is more embarrassing than the Florida State Seminoles starting off the season with a 0-2 record.
Because of the Northern Illinois game, 77% of college football fans from across the country think the Irish will now miss the playoffs. While we’re pretty sure Notre Dame is in at 11-1 — there probably aren’t many out there that think the Irish can rattle off 10 wins in a row either.
This kind of noise surrounding a program usually involves an issue at quarterback… and Notre Dame isn’t any different. Only 13% of Notre Dame fans polled think Riley Leonard should be the QB.
All of that leads to a very humbling question involving fan confidence in the Irish as they take on Purdue. Fans just aren’t buying any of it.
