Probably the two that could have been 1st rounders
Round 1 of the NFL Draft is in the books and it came as no surprise that no Notre Dame football players were selected. It’s one of those years where Notre Dame should have a healthy handful of draft picks over the course of seven rounds, but (at least according to NFL GM’s) there weren’t any that were “good enough” for a first round draft pick
So I guess they’re in the same boat as Colorado Buffaloes legend, Shedeur Sanders.
Now it’s on to day two and rounds 2 and 3, and we’re expecting things to change a little bit — but not by much. The expectation is that both cornerback Benjamin Morrison and safety Xavier Watts will be selected somewhere in either the 2nd or 3rd round. Morrison was tabbed as a 1st round talent before the season began, but teams are being a little hesitant because of his hip surgery. Watts… well I think he’s the best safety in this draft and I don’t care how that sounds.
After those two, however, it may be a little light on Friday night. We might hear linebacker Jack Kiser’s name called (which is something Brendan McAlinden and I boldly predicted in the latest podcast) but there are a lot of linebackers left in the draft.
We might hear tight end Mitchell Evans’ name called as well, but most have him going on day three. The best chance for Evan’s to get drafted on Friday is if there’s a run at the position and a couple of teams have a big need at tight end. He’s rated somewhere between the 3rd and 5th best TE available… so maybe.
Have fun!
