Adding to the front court
The Notre Dame women’s basketball team has seen a mass exodus over the last month. The Irish had three players selected in the WNBA Draft, and a handful of other have hit the transfer portal — like superstar Olivia Miles.
With only one incoming recruit, Notre Dame needed to dip into the transfer portal for a number of players.
The first one is grad transfer Malaya Cowles from the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Malaya just finished her best season ever as a college player, and will have an immediate impact playing in the Irish front court.

The next transfer into Notre Dame is Gisela Sanchez from the Kansas State Wildcats. Sanchez is a native of Barcelona, Spain, and originally played for the Arizona Wildcats. After an injury kept her out all of the 2021-2022 season, she transferred to KSU where she averaged about 5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 15 minutes a game.
