The ‘Cats move to 5-6-3 on the season.
Northwestern women’s soccer traveled to Minneapolis last Friday to face off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The ‘Cats were looking for their first conference victory on the year and their first win since defeating Virginia Tech Sept. 8.
Minnesota got off to a hot start, with Sophia Boman scoring the first goal of the game just over 10 minutes into regulation. Paige Kalal assisted on the score on a set piece play. Minnesota continued to attack throughout the first half, tallying eight shots to Northwestern’s four, but it could not capitalize on its opportunities. The Golden Gophers held a 1-0 lead entering halftime.
The ‘Cats were quick to strike out of the half, with Kennedy Roesch scoring from the right side to record her fifth goal of the season and NU’s first of the game. She was assisted by Caterina Regazzoni. Minnesota responded with three shots of its own over the next ten minutes, all of which Reiley Fitzpatrick saved.
The teams continued to exchange shots throughout the half, and Minnesota had a chance to seal a victory with two shots and a corner kick in the final five minutes. However, the Golden Gophers failed to score all three times, and the teams finished the game each at one goal, securing a tie.
The ‘Cats return home this week and will host UCLA on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Evanston. The Bruins are 10-2-2 on the season and received votes in the latest national rankings.
