The hits just keep on coming for Northwestern’s football program. On Tuesday, the Wildcats lost a commitment from three-star quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg.
Zurbrugg, the No. 55 quarterback from the 2024 class, has flipped his commitment to Oklahoma.
In a statement he shared on social media, Zurbrugg admit the hazing claims surrounding Northwestern played a role in his decision.
“First, I want to thank everyone at Northwestern University for everything they’ve done for me during my recruiting process. After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from Northwestern due to the recent investigations and uncertainty in the program,” Zurbrugg said. “With that being said, I would like to thank Coach Venables, Coach Lebby, and the entire staff at the University of Oklahoma for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to be a sooner. I’m blessed and excited to say that I’ve committed to the University of Oklahoma!”

Northwestern fired longtime coach Pat Fitzgerald after allegations of widespread hazing surfaced. He led the program from 2006-2022.
David Braun is set to be the interim coach at Northwestern this fall. If he does well, maybe that’ll get the Wildcats back on the right track.
