Terrence Shannon, a potential All-American, has been suspended by Illinois following a rape charge stemming from a Sept. 8 incident in Lawrence, KS, Illinois confirmed in a release Thursday.
“On Wednesday, the Douglas County District Attorney issued a warrant for the arrest of Terrence Shannon Jr. Per policy, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has suspended Shannon from all team activities, effective immediately,” the statement reads.
A few more details on Terrence Shannon Jr.’s arrest:
– Surrendered himself today at the Douglas County (Kan.) Jail.
– Facing charge of rape, sexual intercourse without consent and use of force.

“Shannon is charged with rape, as defined under applicable Kansas law. The alleged incident occurred while Shannon visited Lawrence, KS, to attend the Illinois – Kansas football game, played on the evening of Friday, Sept. 8, as a spectator. He was not in Lawrence on official University business, nor was he a member of the University’s travel party. Shannon traveled to Lawrence Thursday where he presented himself to authorities. He posted bail and is returning to Champaign.”
Shannon was on a tear for the No. 11 Illini this season, averaging 21.7 points per game on 51.4% shooting with 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to boot.
