The Chicago Blackhawks and their General Manager Kyle Davidson made news today by announcing that goalie Petr Mrazek re-signs with the club. This two-year extension keeps Mrazek with the club until the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign. It is reportedly worth just over $8 million. This is a solid move by the club and the GM, trying to instill stability for Connor Bedard to develop. Keeping a reliable goaltender is a huge part of that process.

The Deal for Mrazek Looks to Be a Two-Year Deal at Over $4M Per Year
Now as Petr Mrazek re-signs with the Hawks, we will note his numbers have never jumped off the page. The 12-year NHL veteran has a career 2.78 GAA and a .907 SV%. Very consistent though, and at this stage of his career, he has figured the league out. Furthermore, his numbers have been decent in 2023-24, despite the Blackhawks positioning in the standings. The Hawks are currently tied for last place at 30 points with the San Jose Sharks. But for Mrazek, he is having another steady season. He has put up a 3.01 GAA and a .907 SV%, with a solid GSAA of 3.6. Heck, even his 12-17-1 overall record is great considering the team’s standing.
What Does This Mean for the Blackhawks
This move means stability for the organization, headed in the right direction, led by a superstar in the making, Connor Bedard. The Blackhawks did expect a tough season but wanted to bring in a core leadership group. For example, Davidson re-signed veteran Nick Foligno earlier this month. If it weren’t for a few difficult injuries, such as Bedard himself being out with a jaw injury, the Blackhawks could have been more competitive. However, given where they are in the rebuild phase, this deal for Mrazek is a great reliability and standard piece for the organization. If the rebuild turns around quickly, maybe Mrazek will see the team through to brighter days.
