NFL Draft Scouting Report and Film Analysis of UTSA Cornerback Zah Frazier
Measurables:
Height- 6’3″
Weight- 186 lbs
Player Background:
Frazier was a star football, basketball, and track and field athlete at Cedartown High School in Cedartown, Ga. He was an unranked recruit coming out of high school. Frazier committed to Southern Illinois and played one season for the Salukis. After one season at Southern Illinois, he transferred to Coffeyville Community College. Frazier earned Second Team All-Conference honors during his first season at Coffeyville. In 2021, Frazier had a big season, helping Coffeyville win the conference championship. Frazier was ranked the fourth-best JUCO safety in 2022, according to 247Sports, and committed to UTSA. He played in 12 games in his first season with the Roadrunners. In 2024, he had a breakout season with a school-record six interceptions. He earned First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors.
Strengths:
Frazier has an impressive size for the cornerback position. Frazier is not only a tall cornerback at 6-foot-3, but he is also an extremely lengthy one. He has nearly 33-inch arm length, and his wingspan is over 80 inches, ranking in the 95th percentile for the position. To go along with his impressive length, Frazier is also an incredibly fast player. He covers a ton of field in a short period with his long strides and can carry receivers vertically down the field with his great long speed. Frazier is an all-around impressive athlete who recorded a 9.36 relative athletic score at the NFL combine.
Frazier has incredible ball skills. He had the second-most interceptions in the entire country in 2024, with six to go along with nine pass deflections. He has great instincts when the ball is in the air and is extremely competitive at the catch point. Frazier is a competitive cornerback, and with his length and physicality, he has shown flashes of being a really good press coverage corner.
Weaknesses:
Frazier has just one year of starting experience at the FBS level, and with that, there are some inconsistencies and some unrefined techniques in Frazier’s game. While Frazier shows a lot of promise in press coverage, he still needs to improve his footwork, hand placement, and timing. He can be a bit too grabby down the field in man coverage. He can be susceptible to double moves at times and could further his ball production even more by improving the consistency of his ball-tracking skills down the field.
Frazier does have some tightness in the hips. Against the run, Frazier is a willing tackler but can struggle to shed blockers and does miss some tackles in open space. He is an older prospect who will turn 25 years old during his rookie season in the NFL, and yet he has just one year of starting experience at the FBS level. Frazier is an extremely late breakout player and has faced very little high-level competition throughout his college career.
Potential Team Fits:
NFL Projection:
Frazier is a fascinating NFL Draft prospect who has a ton of athletic upside and promising traits with a lack of experience against high-level competition, but he is also an older prospect. There is a possibility for some rough moments at times early in his career, but Frazier has the traits needed to develop into a starting cornerback in the NFL. He has the skill set to be a quality corner in both man and zone coverage at the next level if he continues to refine his technique and gain experience.
Prospect Grade:
Fourth Round
