Imagine the damage that a healthy Micah Parson can do. Throughout his four-year career with the Cowboys, Parsons racked up 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles, and 112 quarterback hits. Not that shabby for a four-year veteran who could do so much more if he can remain healthy and get on a team that has a solid supporting cast.
Enter the Chicago Bears. A team with a lot of cap room and some draft capital to play with. They are a team on the rise, thanks to their newly installed coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is a guy who is going to get the most out of this defense and, with a few more pieces, could end up creating a championship unit.
The Bears are headed in the right direction and Parsons, who wants to be a winner, just might like what the Bears have to offer. But the Cowboys, and owner Jerry Jones, would have to like what the Bears offer, if they offered them anything, for Parsons.
The Cowboys also must be willing to part with their superstar.
Why the Chicago Bears Need Micah Parsons
The Cost of a Trade
A trade for Parsons would likely include a heavy haul of draft picks. The Bears don’t have any players to spare that the Cowboys might want. Maybe Jaylon Johnson or Kyler Gordon but beyond that, Chicago is not rich in highly talented players. They are trying to get there but are still a little way away from having a loaded roster.
Let’s say that the Cowboys decide that they want to trade Parsons, and the Bears are keen on it. It’s going to take a lot to get him. One would think that the Cowboys would want two first-round picks, a second, and possibly a third. Well, the Bears could mortgage their future on it and go ahead and give up a couple of first-round picks for this generational player. It just might be worth it.
Look what they gave up for Khalil Mack a few years ago.t this stage in his career, Parsons is much better than Mack was when the Bears got him. Parsons could easily make a huge difference on defense for the Bears and might just be worth the cost.
Would the Bears Do this?
The Bears aren’t known for making huge moves, but they are starting to show that they want to be winners and are willing to make moves to be winners. Trying to go after and secure Parsons as a Chicago Bear would be a huge win for this organization. It would help set their defense on the right path. It would also make their pass rush one of the best in the league.
Imagine a refreshed and ready Montez Sweat to go along opposite Parsons. That would be a deadly combination.
In the end, it’s more likely that the Bears won’t make any moves to get Parsons should the Cowboys decide to make him available. Chicago has a lot that they need to fix with the draft picks that they have. So, their willingness to depart with those picks could be fleeting. But the Bears need a player like Parsons to help rush the passer and make their defense much better. If they cannot have Parsons, then they need to find someone else to fit in and rush the quarterback.
