The Chicago Bears enjoyed a well-deserved bye this week, but there were still plenty of games with draft position implications for Bears fans to keep an eye on this weekend.
So how did the bye week action impact Chicago’s current draft positioning?
Following Sunday’s action, the Bears currently hold two of the top five picks in the 2024 NFL draft, according to Tankathon.
The Carolina Panthers’ first-round pick, which belongs to Chicago, remains No. 1 overall after the team lost their 11th game of the season. Meanwhile, the Bears’ selection is now fifth overall after the Washington Commanders lost their ninth game of the season.
- Bears (via Panthers, 1-11)
- Patriots (2-10)
- Cardinals (3-10)
- Commanders (4-9)
- Bears (4-8)
There are plenty of questions surrounding the Bears with the final five games on deck, including the future of quarterback Justin Fields. If Chicago manages to snag the top selection in the draft, general manager Ryan Poles will need to determine whether any quarterback in the 2024 class blows him away or if the Bears will stick with Fields, who’s entering the final year of his rookie deal (and the fifth-year option is still in play). Trading back from a top draft spot isn’t out of the question either.
The Panthers remain the lone one-win team left in the NFL, where the New England Patriots have two wins and Arizona Cardinals have three wins. There are three other teams that are 4-8, along with the Bears: New York Giants, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans.
The results of Sunday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers, along with Monday night’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars, won’t have an impact on Chicago’s draft order.
