We got the inside scoop on the Detroit Lions from Marc Ryan from Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket.
On her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll talked with Marc Ryan from Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket to help preview Thanksgiving’s Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions matchup. Ryan discussed what has worked so well in the Ben Johnson offense, shared his concerns with Detroit’s secondary, and gave a strong statement on why the Bears should fire Matt Eberflus right now.
The Caleb Williams’ offseason narrative came up where many questioned his maturity, and Ryan nixed that before heading into a rant about Chicago’s head coach.
“I haven’t seen a lot of that. I’ve seen [Caleb’s] leadership at the podium, which makes me very, very hopeful for his future,” Ryan said of Williams. “You like the weapons. What you don’t like is the captain of the ship, quite honestly.”
“And you consider that 6.2 coaches lose their gigs every year in the National Football League. Last year, it was eight. This year, it could be seven or eight. I’m wondering, when you consider that some coaches have already been terminated, why is Matt Eberflus still there? Do we or do we not subscribe to the notion that what must be done eventually should be done immediately? If you know that it must be done eventually, why not get it done now?”
Bears fans know why.
Fans and media who root for and cover the other 31 teams in the NFL know firing Eberflus is the right move.
It’s another fantastic podcast, and Ryan’s thoughts on Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson are a must-listen (or must-see if you watch the interview). He thinks Johnson may not be a viable option for the Bears, and his reasoning may have legs. Check it out in the embeds below.
