The popular Colbert gets a round three in the Windy City.
The Chicago Bears were looking at some reinforcements for safety on Tuesday morning at Halas Hall as they worked out Adrian Colbert, Johnathan Abram, Terrell Edmunds, Jason Taylor, and Tracy Walker, according to the Tribune’s Brad Biggs.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Bears were bringing Colbert back to the Navy and Orange.
Updated: On Wednesday morning, the Bears announced that Colbert was being signed to the practice squad and wide receiver Collin Johnson was being signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
With Jaquan Brisker on injured reserve and Elijah Hicks nursing an ankle injury, Colbert will provide some veteran depth at the position.
This will be Colbert’s third go-round with the Bears, and if you watched HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer, the 31-year-old’s battle to make the 53-man roster was prominently featured. Colbert called the Bears “ the favorite of all the places that I’ve been,” and that list includes nine other NFL teams. In one of the more viral moments from the show, Chicago general manager Ryan Poles had to take a moment to collect himself while telling Colbert that they were going to release him.
Johnson’s was another popular Hard Knocks storyline, but a camp injury slowed his push to make the 53-man roster out of camp. He was elevated for a couple of games earlier this season and saw 22 total snaps.
