LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Bears have reportedly traded for four-time Super Bowl champion guard Joe Thuney from the Chiefs.
According to multiple reports, the Bears are sending back a 2026 fourth-round pick for the 32-year-old guard.
Thuney has been extremely durable during his career and has only had two holding penalties over the last two seasons.
He was drafted by the Patriots in 2016 and won Super Bowls with them in 2016 and 2018. In 2021, Thuney signed a $80 million, five-year deal with the Chiefs and also won two Super Bowls with them.
He has one year remaining on his deal with a $16,000,000 cap hit. Thuney was first-team all-pro in 2023 and 2024 and is a three-time pro bowler.
It’s the second trade in as many days for Poles and company for an offensive lineman. On Tuesday, the Bears traded a 2025 sixth-round pick for guard Jonah Jackson from the Rams.
Jackson has experience playing for Johnson with Detroit and also eats a good amount of cap for this coming season with $17.5 million.
Poles has continued his trend of jumping the free agent market by trading draft picks.
With these particular moves, the 10th pick in the draft becomes even more intriguing. If they do select an offensive lineman, a true overhaul could take place.
Also the idea of selecting Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham or even running back Ashton Jenty will get more legs after these trades.
The legal non-tampering period for free agency kicks off Monday. The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 24 through the 26th in Green Bay.
