CHICAGO (WGN) — Former Chicago Bears wide receiver and kick returner Velus Jones Jr. has found a new NFL home after being released this past week.
According to Ari Meirov, the Jacksonville Jaguars are signing former Bears wide receiver and return specialist Velus Jones Jr.
Jones was a star of Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears before the NFL season kicked off, where he made headlines for his stories on Crash the Ferret, a pet he had in college, and his willingness to pivot to the running back room to help earn a roster spot.
Jones Jr. made the initial 53-man roster, but after a muffed punt against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, the former USC Trojan and Tennessee Volunteer saw his playing time cut dramatically until he was waived last Friday.
No team ended up claiming him on waivers, which led to Jones Jr’s outright release and gave him the ability to sign anywhere.
Jones Jr ran the ball 19 times for 165 yards and a touchdown, while catching 12 passes for 135 yards and another touchdown across parts of three seasons with the Bears.
Chicago travels to take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday in Phoenix, where game time is set for 3:05 p.m. CT.
