Star tight end Travis Kelce is contemplating retirement before the 2025 season. If he were to retire, quarterback Patrick Mahomes would need to find a new tight end he can trust. Enter Noah Gray, who has succeeded as a backup tight end for the Chiefs and proved he can be the next man up for them. Here is the Noah Gray dynasty outlook for 2025 and beyond.
Noah Gray: Chiefs Tight End Dynasty Outlook
Current Production
Gray had the best year of his four-year NFL career in 2024, catching 40 of 49 targets for 437 receiving yards and five touchdowns. All of these were career-high numbers for Gray. This was with Kelce playing the entire season, except for Week 18, and Gray only had one catch that week. Even with the limited receptions, Gray finished as a top-20 weekly fantasy tight end seven times in 2024, which is pretty good considering he is a backup tight end. In PPR leagues, Kelce finished as the TE5, while Gray finished as the TE22, the highest finish for any second-string tight end.
Gray Dynasty Price
Gray entered the 2024 season outside the top 40 tight ends and is now the TE24 according to KeepTradeCut. Interestingly, he is one spot behind Kelce. Other players above him are Evan Engram, Ben Sinnott and Ja’Tavion Sanders, while Gray is ahead of Theo Johnson and Brenton Strange. Other than Engram, Gray has had much more production than any of the other players ranked around him. He is one of the best values in this tier.
Gray is worth an early third-round pick in PPR non-tight-end premium leagues. He is worth a late second-round pick in tight-end premium leagues. However, his value will skyrocket if Kelce decides to retire before the 2025 season.
Gray Dynasty Outlook
At the start of the 2024 season, Gray signed a three-year extension with the Chiefs to keep him on the team for 2025-2027. However, there is an opt-out after 2025 that will make him a free agent. The Chiefs extending him for three years means that they have plans for him in the future.
Gray’s future stock depends on two things: If Kelce retires and what the Chiefs do with the tight end position during the 2025 NFL Draft. There is a good chance that Kelce does decide to retire, which will open up almost 100 targets for the Chiefs. A good chunk of those targets will go to Gray, and playing with Mahomes will make Gray a top-15 tight end with the potential to be a top-10 tight end.
However, the Chiefs could draft a tight end, such as Harold Fannin Jr. or Gunnar Helm, which will take targets away from Gray. If the Chiefs draft a tight end, Gray should still be the #1 tight end on the team, as later-round rookie tight ends are slow to produce in offenses.
What to Do with Gray in Dynasty Leagues
Buy Gray now before Kelce retires as his will become much higher than his current dynasty value if Kelce decides to retire. Whenever you have a chance to trade for a player who is playing with one of the best quarterbacks in the league with lots of upside, take it. Gray will have a high ceiling next year if Kelce is not there.
Giving away a third-round pick is worth the upside of Gray being the #1 tight end for Mahomes in 2025. Gray has a bright future for his dynasty outlook.
