2025 NFL Draft: Savion Williams Scouting Report
Savion Williams enters the 2025 NFL Draft as a prospect who checks all the physical boxes for a potential big-time deep-threat wide receiver and a viable red zone threat. He may be inexperienced playing traditional wideout, as he runs jet sweeps, takes direct snaps in short yardage and goal line situations, and does a lot of short catches and runs in TCU’s offense. Due to his inexperience playing traditional wideout mostly due to TCU’s style of offense. For that reason, Williams has not mastered the professional route tree and has inconsistent hands and ball skills, which can be corrected with proper coaching.
Williams was an in-state four-star recruit, coming out of Marshall High School in the Class of 2020, who played quarterback his senior year and led them to a district championship. After his first two seasons primarily as a reserve, Williams came on in his last three years in Fort Worth, being named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in his final two seasons, with him scoring 13 total touchdowns (six receiving, six rushing, and one passing touchdown) in the 2024 season. He was ranked No. 77 in Eric Eldholm’s Top 100 prospect rankings for the 2025 draft class.
Strengths
- Elite combination of size, speed, and explosiveness for a number one wideout at the NFL level.
- Excellent at gadget plays, i.e., direct snaps, jet sweeps, and reverses.
- Has the size and strength to beat press coverage on the perimeter and get 50-50 jump balls.
- He has been shown to put on the accelerator to create separation on defenders and has the speed in the open field.
- Works back to the ball on passes that are underthrown.
- Mismatch for cornerbacks trying to tackle him and is hard to take down in the open field.
Weaknesses
- Uptight at the route’s break points with sloppy footwork.
- He needs to work with the route-running technique and learn the route tree.
- He will need to improve his ability to track the ball on deep balls.
- Lack of focus leads to easy drops.
- Seen as more of a utility, or gadget player, rather than a true wideout.
NFL Comparison: Cordarrale Patterson, Pittsburgh Steelers

Draft Projection: Third-fourth round
Bottom Line on Savion Williams
Savion Williams has the prototypical build and athleticism to be a top-flight wideout in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he will need coaching at the next level. He needs to learn the route tree first and then master running routes at the professional level, though he can not be at fault due to the nature of TCU. Williams’ hand-eye coordination and footwork will also need work, but 6’ 4”, 222 pounds is something you can’t teach. In conclusion, Williams can be a contributor as a gadget player who could be an ace on special teams right away until he rounds out his game at the NFL level.
