JB and Lester with their cooled-down recap of the Bears vs. Packers game.
The Chicago Bears and head coach Matt Eberflus keep finding new ways to lose, the latest being a last-second blocked field goal against the Green Bay Packers. But if I’m being honest, I expected a blowout loss, so a 1-point defeat wasn’t the worst possible outcome. It sure beats the embarrassment of a Trestman-era 50-burger, and if we’re looking for silver linings, it should be another nail in Eberflus’ coffin.
A second blown fourth-quarter lead this season, and ninth in his two-plus years coaching the Bears, should be all the franchise needs to send him on his way.
The Bears need to get him as far away from quarterback Caleb Williams, and while I’d love to see it happen as soon as possible, I’ll have to settle for after week 17.
Caleb had his best game in a month, and hopefully, he’s back on track with the new offensive coordinator, Thomas Brown, taking a lead role in his development.
Brown’s first game was wildly different from his predecessor. There was a rhythm to his play calls. The plays were getting in faster. The ball was getting out quicker. Motion was rediscovered. And most importantly, he schemed things up to help his quarterback, playmakers, and offensive line.
The 2025 season is such an unknown, but priority number one is making sure that Williams learns and develops as a rookie for whoever coaches him next season.
Brown also has a significant opportunity to raise his coaching profile in the next several weeks, so let’s hope it’s a win-win scenario for Caleb and his O.C. over the next seven games.
