MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. — Friends and family gathered for a final goodbye to Virginia Halas McCaskey Wednesday.
The longtime owner and matriarch of the Chicago Bears passed away last week at the age of 102.
A private funeral service was held at St Emily Catholic Church in Mount Prospect.
McCaskey served as the owner of the Bears since her father and team founder George S. Halas died on Oct. 31, 1983. Her son, George, has been chairman of the Bears since 2011, when he took over that role from brother Michael.
On Tuesday, a public memorial service was held in Des Plaines. Leaders in the political, business and sports world joined Chicago Bears players and fans to pay respects at the Oehler Funeral Home.
