Patrick Mahomes is an elite quarterback in real-life football, but that doesn’t always translate to fantasy. Dynasty leagues are active throughout the offseason, but the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft will only increase activity in these leagues. Starting quarterbacks are an elite commodity in superflex leagues, and owners could overpay for security at the position. If you’re looking to increase the overall talent on your fantasy team, you should consider selling high on Mahomes or Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young.
Patrick Mahomes, Bryce Young Among Top Fantasy Football “Sell” Candidates
As of this posting, Patrick Mahomes is currently the QB6 in fantasy football, per KeepTradeCut. While this is a reasonable price for a player who is objectively one of the game’s elite talents, his on-field production doesn’t justify such a high rating.
Mahomes finished the 2024 season as the QB11, and it’s hard to see how he can notably improve on that in 2025. Matt Nagy will return as offensive coordinator, which means the team will once again focus on the short passing game. Xavier Worthy had his moments as a rookie, but the first-round pick never established himself as a consistent threat in the passing attack. Rashee Rice is returning from a season-ending injury, Travis Kelce is another year older, and the offensive line will probably be worse with Joe Thuney in Chicago and career backup Jaylon Moore making $15 million a year.
If you were building an actual football team, Patrick Mahomes might be the first player off the board. However, in fantasy football, Mahomes could probably get you the 1.01 plus change. Alternatively, you could probably trade Mahomes for a younger option like Drake Maye and an additional pick. It never feels good to part ways with a talent like Patrick Mahomes, but the fantasy football value is too good to ignore.
Bryce Young: The Real Deal?
After a slow start to his career, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young finally showed signs of life during the back half of the 2024 season. Taking over for an injured Andy Dalton, Young finished the season as the QB20 despite starting in just 12 games. He’s now the QB21, which isn’t an absurd price, but it’s still a little high for an unproven quarterback.
Young had three top-eight finishes in the season’s final six weeks, but a deeper dive shows these performances may not be sustainable. Young needed 46 passing attempts to reach his QB8 finish in Week 13, recorded a season-high 68 rushing yards in Week 16 to be the QB2 (his next-highest total was 30 yards), and dominated an abysmal Atlanta Falcons defense to become QB1 in Week 18.
Could Bryce Young maintain his upward development and become a franchise quarterback? Of course. However, this could just as easily be a fluke. QB21 is not a ridiculous price by any stretch of the imagination, but Bryce Young is an easy sell when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is currently priced as the QB22. While he is older, Prescott has a firm hold on his starting job and is paired with an elite receiver in CeeDee Lamb. He should be healthy for the start of the regular season and should provide more consistent production with a similar ceiling.
