Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has high praise for the Chicago Bears’ Ben Johnson, who just won Assistant Coach of the Year.
Earlier today, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid met the media, and he was asked who his “biggest rival” was when coaching. He first mentioned Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Next, he said former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
The third coach he alluded to, he didn’t mention by name, but he clearly knows the scheme and playcalling behind the man.
“I’ve enjoyed watching the Lions this year and the job that their offensive coordinator did there,” Reid said. “And now he’s the head coach at Chicago.”
That coach is, of course, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was named the Chicago Bears head coach on January 20.
On January 23, Johnson was named the Assistant Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Writers Association, and earlier tonight, he took home the same award from the Associated Press at the NFL Honors.
Johnson won the AP honor in a landslide, racking up 29 first-place votes and 364 points. Minnesota’s Brian Flores was second with 143 points, the Lions’ Aaron Glenn was third with 110, and the Eagles’ Vic Fangio was fourth with 109 points.
