LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears moved Nsimba Webster, Ian Wheeler and Douglas Coleman III to the Injured reserve list Saturday, according to multiple reports.
Coleman, a cornerback, was released from a Kansas City hospital and returned to Chicago on Friday after he was injured while making a tackle during a preseason game against the Chiefs.
“He was walking around,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus told Chicago radio station WSCR “670 The Score.” “I did talk to him. He’s in good spirits.”
Coleman was immobilized on a stretcher and taken from Arrowhead Stadium in an ambulance for a neck injury on Thursday night after tackling the Chiefs’ Cornell Powell on the first play of the second half.
Wheeler, an undrafted rookie running back featured on episode 2 of HBO’s “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears,” had put his medical residency on hold to pursue his dream of playing NFL football.
The Howard University alum was placed on IR Saturday with a torn ACL.
In 42 career games at Howard, Wheeler notched 177 carries for 1,154 rushing yards (6.5 YPC) and 14 touchdowns.
Webster, a wide out vying for one of the Bears final spots in their receiver room, was placed on IR with a groin injury.
Webster has four years of NFL experience, playing two seasons a piece for the Bears (2021-22) and Los Angeles Rams (2019-20), where he has been primarily used as a punt returner.
In 29 career games, Webster has two catches for 14 yards and 36 punt returns for 216 yards (6.0 YPR).
