Tracking Caleb Williams and the Bears passing records
Caleb Williams turned in a promising performance in the loss against the Packers on Sunday, posting 23/31 for 231 yards in a brisk, efficient game. Both sides in this one only had seven possessions, significantly lower than the normal 11-12 in most NFL contests. The lack of drives likely lowered Caleb’s ability to rack up additional yardage. With new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown on the job, hopes are renewed that Williams can get back on track.
The next test for Williams and this Chicago Bears offense will be the Minnesota Vikings blitz-happy defense. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores brings the heat, but has been susceptible to giving up big gains, particularly by wide receivers. If Thomas Brown can build in some hot reads, Caleb should have the opportunity to break the drought in touchdown passes.
In fact, Caleb could challenge both the rookie yardage and TD record this week. He’s still two behind Chuckin’ Charlie O’Rourke, who is hanging on for dear life to his 8-decade old record, and 177 yards behind Mitchell Trubisky’s rookie yardage record. Let’s see if the rookie can clear both marks at home against a divisional opponent before moving on to the Thanksgiving game.
