No rookie in Chicago Bears history has thrown for more touchdowns than Caleb Williams.
On Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions, Caleb Williams threw his 12th touchdown pass, exceeding “Chuckin’ Charlie” O’Rourke Sr. in the Chicago Bears record books for the most touchdown passes by a rookie. Caleb tied the record last week, and now he stands alone as the most prolific rookie passer in team history with his 31-yard TD strike to Keenan Allen.
O’Rourke’s record has stood for 82 years, and low bar or not, it’s still a bar that Williams needed to step over as he checks off milestones in his Bears career.
The passing attempt that led to the TD was Caleb’s 212th straight without throwing an interception, which broke Kyler Murray’s record for most consecutive passes by a rookie without a pick.
Williams accomplished it in his twelfth professional game, so there’s some time for him to crack into the top 10 all-time for TD passes in a rookie season.
Here’s that list of players he’s chasing.
31 TD passes – Justin Herbert (2020) Chargers
27 – Baker Mayfield (2018) Browns
26 – Russell Wilson (2012) Seahawks – Peyton Manning (1998) Colts
24- Daniel Jones (2019) Giants
23 – C.J. Stroud (2023) Texans – Dak Prescott (2016) – Andrew Luck (2012) Colts
Five rookies tied with 22 TD passes
Do you think Caleb has a chance at 23 touchdown passes this seaosn and the top ten?
Here’s the record!
