After finishing QB11 in his rookie season, C.J. Stroud regressed in year two, finishing as the QB18 in 2024. Stroud still took the Texans to their second straight playoff berth despite the poor offensive numbers. What version of Stroud will we see in 2025: his sensational rookie season or disappointing sophomore slump? Here is the dynasty outlook for C.J. Stroud.
Dynasty Outlook for C.J. Stroud
Current Production
Stroud was taken as the fifth quarterback in redraft fantasy football drafts in the summer. Only Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson were going ahead of him. Players such as Jayden Daniels and Baker Mayfield, who finished as top-five quarterbacks, were drafted outside the top ten.
After throwing for over 4000 yards in just 15 games in 2023, Stroud failed to top that number in all 17 games this season. He had three less touchdowns in 2024 than in 2023. The biggest concern for Stroud was his increase in interceptions. He only threw five in his rookie season and led the NFL with the lowest interception percentage in the league. However, he threw twelve interceptions in his sophomore year.
Stroud is not a dual-threat quarterback, ranking around league average in carries, rushing yards, and yards per carry. He finished with zero rushing touchdowns in 2024 after having three in his Rookie of the Year campaign.
Stroud Dynasty Price
According to KeepTradeCut, Stroud is currently the QB9 in dynasty rankings after starting the season as QB3. He is right below Justin Herbert and Drake Maye and just ahead of Bo Nix, Jordan Love, and Caleb Williams. According to their trade calculator, Stroud is worth a little more than an early 2025 first-round pick in rookie drafts.
Stroud Dynasty Outlook
The Texans struggled with injuries in their wide receiver room. Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell all missed significant time with injuries. Dell will miss most of next season, and Diggs is a free agent. Look for the Texans to bring in more help in the receiver room to join Collins.
Additionally, the offensive line was not good for the Texans. Stroud was the second-most-sacked quarterback in the league. Only Caleb Williams took more sacks.
Stroud is obviously a very talented quarterback, as we saw in his rookie season. This year was a down year, with multiple factors going into his decline. The Texans should be better offensively in 2025, and Stroud will be the face of that. Because finishing as a top-ten quarterback is hard for a non-dual threat quarterback, Stroud should rank as a mid-tier QB2 for next year.
What to Do With C.J. Stroud in Dynasty Leagues?
Stroud is over-ranked in dynasty as being the QB9 is too high for him. Without the rushing upside, it is hard to see him finishing among the top quarterbacks in fantasy. Although Stroud should bounce back in 2025, try to trade him away for a similarly ranked quarterback, such as Maye, Nix, or Williams with more rushing upside and a brighter future.
On the other hand, if you are a risky fantasy manager, try to buy low on him after his down year and hope that he can bounce back to his rookie season numbers.
