LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have traded for some additional pass rushing help by acquiring outside linebacker Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks.
Poles and company have traded a 2025 sixth-round for Taylor, who is a former 2020 second-round pick.
Taylor missed his entire rookie season with a leg injury, but has played 49 straight games since, and tallied 21.5 career sacks that included a near breakout year in 2022 with 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
He took a step back last year with 5.5 sacks, but still has potential at 27 years old.
It’s unknown how Taylor will fit in Eberflus’ defensive scheme with Edmunds, Edwards and Sanborn solidified as the linebackers.
He will likely work on the edge. Throughout camp, there’s been speculation fifth-round pick and rookie Austin Booker could become a starter after a solid preseason.
On HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” it was revealed the front office was interested in former Patriots’ linebacker Matthew Judon, 32, who ended up getting traded to Atlanta.
The Bears waived defensive end Khalid Kareem and terminated the contract of receiver Freddie Swain, who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, to make room on the roster.
The Bears open up the 2024 season Sept. 8 at home against the Tennessee Titans following an undefeated preseason.
