LAKE FOREST, Ill. — For the second day in a row, the Chicago Bears have struck a deal for defensive line help, this time acquiring a defensive tackle from the Cleveland Browns.
The Bears got Chris Williams and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in exchange for a sixth-round selection the team originally acquired from the Miami Dolphins in last season’s Chase Claypool trade.
Williams has 13 games played over two years with the Indianapolis Colts on his NFL resume, across which he has registered six tackles.
Williams, an undrafted free agent out of Wagner College in Staten island, New York, caught the eye of Matt Eberflus when he was the defensive coordinator for the Colts in 2020.
On Friday, Chicago acquired linebacker Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for another sixth-round pick, as general manager Ryan Poles looks to address the team’s perceived need for pass rush help along the defensive line.
The Bears finished the NFL preseason 4-0, outscoring their opponents 115-47, and will open up the NFL regular season at Soldier Field against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 8, with kickoff set for noon CT.
