LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have released tight end Gerald Everett after one season.
The move, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and confirmed on Everett’s social media, saves the Bears $5.5 million in cap space going into free agency.
The veteran tight end signed a two-year, $12 million contact last offseason to be second of the depth chart behind Cole Kmet.
Neither tight end flourished during the 2024 campaign, but Everett especially struggled with just eight receptions for 36 yards and no touchdowns. Prior to this past season, he consistently put up receptions and yardage with the Chargers, Seahawks and Rams.
It will be interesting to see how Johnson tries to get Kmet into the mix after unlocking Sam LaPorta in Detroit.
NFL free agency officially begins on March 12.
