CHICAGO (WGN) — The Chicago Bears offense looked as disjointed and lifeless as it has all season on the way to a 19-3 loss against the New England Patriots, who were 2-7 coming into Sunday’s contest.
Game Recap
Aside from a 33-yard field goal from Cairo Santos near the 7-minute mark in the second quarter, the Bears’ offense was nearly non-existent all afternoon against a below average defense.
Heading into Sunday on a per-game basis, the Patriots were 21st in opponents’ points (24.1) and 24th in opponents’ total yards (361.4), while also ranking 27th in opponent third down conversion percentage (45.54%) and 29th in total sacks on defense (16).
After the clock hit triple zeroes Sunday, Chicago scored three points on 142 total yards, went 1-for-14 on third down, and Caleb Williams was sacked nine times amid a stretch where the Bears offense has not scored a touchdown in 22 straight possessions.
Williams finished the afternoon 16-for-30 with 120 passing yards. D’Andre Swift paced the run game with 16 carries for 59 yards, while Keenan Allen led the pass catchers with 5 receptions for 44 yards.
Drake Maye found Ja’Lynn Polk for a 2-yard TD pass with just under two minutes to go in the first half, and New England kicker Joey Slye added a trio of field goals from 25, 33 and 37 yards to give the Patriots’ scoring against the Bears.
Maye finished 15-for-25 with 184 passing yards, one TD and one interception.
Injury Tent
Chicago offensive guard Teven Jenkins left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury after getting rolled up on during a D’Andre Swift run up the middle. Jenkins was later ruled out for the rest of the game.
