Overview And Film Analysis Of 2025 NFL Draft Prospect And UNC RB Omarion Hampton — A Bellcow Ball Carrier With All-Pro Potential.
Player Background:
Omarion Hampton grew up in North Carolina, attending Cleveland High School as a football, basketball, and track & field superstar.
Hampton earned the North Carolina Gatorade Football Player of the Year Award, en route to a sparkling four-star grade — No. 12 running back and top-three player overall in NC.
The gifted ball carrier stayed at home and suited up for the Tar Heels where he would see little action as a freshman before becoming the feature back in 2023 and 2024.
In his first year as the full-time starter, Hampton logged an impressive stat line. He recorded 1,500 rushing yards, 222 receiving yards, and 16 total touchdowns.
He was even better in 2024, posting career highs across the board. Hampton racked up 1,660 yards on the ground, along with 15 scores. As a receiver, the UNC star caught 38 passes for 373 yards and two more touchdowns.
Strengths/Pros:
Hampton, although he gets lost behind Ashton Jeanty, is far and away the most complete running back prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft.
First, as a runner, Hampton shows remarkable instincts between the tackles and outside the numbers. His vision is top notch and he’s very patient as rushing lanes clear.
Hampton has a unique ability to get skinny and squeeze between holes in the offensive line. He’s decisive and knows when to attack the gaps as they open.
Another feather in Hampton’s cap is one that many elite NFL running backs have — a knack for falling forward when getting tackled. Even on stuffed runs, he still finds a way to get a yard or two out of them.
In space, Hampton is nearly impossible to corral on first contact. He possesses legit breakaway speed and uses it to eat up bad angles like the Cookie Monster snatching up chocolate chip cookies.
Hampton forced 139 total missed tackles in his two years as the team’s RB1, highlighting just how slippery and elusive he is when he gets the ball out wide. And showing magnificent contact balance.
On top of his rushing prowess, Hampton is an exceptional receiver out of the backfield. He has a wide array of routes, reliable hands as a check-down option, and is a trusted blocker in pass protection.
Hampton also owns some of the best collegiate production any running back prospect has had over the past decade. He’s a player who has proven capable of handling a full workload on Sundays.
Weaknesses/Cons:
Hampton is a near-perfect prospect, but he isn’t without shortcomings. The biggest red flag is his tendency to get ahead of his skis when he sees a crease.
His instincts are great, but there are times when Hampton gets too eager and hammers the throttle too early, leading to less yardage than he’d otherwise be able to create.
Likewise, Hampton’s ability to move the pile is a question mark. He doesn’t possess elite lower-body drive, and it shows up when North Carolina was unable to move piles consistently.
Potential Team Fits:
NFL Projection:
Omarion Hampton should be taken as an immediate starter in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has an every-down skillset that coaches covet and a long track record of production.
Hampton has superb vision as a runner and can outrun almost anyone when he hits the top gear. Furthermore, the UNC star is slippery and impossible to wrap up in space.
He blocks well enough to play on obvious passing downs, and Hampton still has another level he can reach as a receiver in the NFL.
While Jeanty receives most of the fanfare on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, Hampton shouldn’t wait too long to hear his name called either. He’s a first-round talent every day of the week.
Prospect Grade:
•Mid-Late 1st Round
Film Exposures:
•Clemson
•Duke
•Georgia Tech
•Florida State
