Charles Grant has consistently been near the top of FCS offensive linemen rankings and has headed to the NFL. Here is a 2025 NFL Draft Early Scouting Report and film analysis on him.
Overview And Film Analysis Of 2025 NFL Draft Prospect And William & Mary OL Charles Grant
Measurables:
- 6’4”
- 300 lbs
Player Background:
Charles Grant enrolled at William & Mary after a strong high school career at Churchland in Virginia. He was a zero-star, unranked recruit in the 2020 class and saw very little time in his first year with the Tribe. He saw just eight snaps in three games during his freshman season. His sophomore campaign saw him play in 11 games and start five, posting a respectable 67.4 PFF grade in almost 350 snaps.
He was a full-time starter the following season and immediately became one of the best linemen in the FCS. Grant didn’t allow a single sack across 13 games and his PFF grade rose to 78.7. He continued his success into 2023, allowing just one sack and earning a plethora of All-American honors. His senior season was multiple levels above any of his previous production, winning FCS OL of the year and posting a ridiculous 90.7 PFF grade.
Accolades:
- All-America Sophomore Team (2022)
- All-CAA First Team (2022)
- All-CAA First Team (2023)
- Second Team FCS All-American (2023)
- FCS OL of the Year (2024)
- First Team FCS All-American (2024)
Strengths/Pros:
Grant is an incredibly fluid mover on the interior and can rotate quickly to attack gaps and disrupt pass-rush plans. He’s a solid overall athlete with above-average length to make early contact and lock out defenders. He often gets himself into optimal positions as a rotating lineman and is a quick processor, identifying stunts and working through extended defensive schemes. His timing and quick-hitter violence are impressive when run blocking, setting gaps quickly and easily opening lanes.
He plays with a mauler mentality, staying violent through the play and always trying to fully finish his blocks. Grant knows how to drive through plays and maintain a well-built base with better leverage during extended plays. He drives to the second level smoothly, engaging early and establishing a strong connection immediately. His body redirection in pass blocking is great, rotating through his base and re-engaging when necessary to clear the pocket. He’s a knowledgeable blocker with match technique that lets him alter his positioning to different pass-rush plans.
Weaknesses/Cons:
Grant’s biggest physical weakness is how lean he is from his shoulders down. He can’t generate as much leg drive as some larger linemen because of it and needs to add weight to be able to sink into his base more. His footwork gets choppy at times in pass protection, taking some inefficient routes when pulling. His leanness also affects his footwork, having to move them too much to offset his lighter base.
He drifts around the pocket too much against weaker pass-rush sets and can accidentally close the pocket behind him. Grant has some visible stiffness in his hips when asked to fully commit to the outside and struggles a bit against faster defenders. His hands tend to get a bit sloppy all around and needs to refine his placement and consistency. As with most FCS-level prospects, the questions about opposing teams’ strengths are valid and a concern that will need to be answered.
Potential Team Fits:
NFL Projection:
At this point in his development, Grant is more of a project than a complete product, but one that teams should be all over. Many of his present issues could be minimized once he gets onto an NFL strength training program and adds a few pounds. His adaptation to the much higher level of competition could come with many bumps in the road, but his realistic ceiling is worth the risk. He could definitely develop into a long-term starter and will be a decent depth option at the very least.
