Josh Jobe 2022 NFL Draft Profile
As talented as Josh Jobe is, it can be easy to overlook his ability since he played in the shadows of Trevon Diggs and Patrick Surtain II. Surtain and Diggs were elite college athletes that set the bar really high for college secondaries. For Jobe, he had to wait his turn to get a starting role with Nick Saban‘s Crimson Tide team. And when he was named a starter on the depth chart for 2020, he was a big contributor to Alabama’s undefeated season. After 2020, Jobe chose to play for Alabama another year. But some draft analysts believe that Jobe’s decision may have hurt his draft stock. However, that had nothing to do with how good he played.
As a matter of fact, Jobe played well during 2021. He had 38 tackles, four passes defended, and a career-high of two interceptions. He also received Alabama’s Player of the Week by Alabama coaches and had a season-high seven tackles against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship. Although he played well, it was not as good as his previous season. But that was due to Jobe playing through the 2021 season with turf toe. Jobe eventually had surgery prior to the College Football Playoffs. As a result, Jobe was a key player who was missing in the playoffs.
Jobe Had a Great 2020 Season
Despite not recording a single interception, Jobe had 55 tackles, two sacks, 11 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and was voted Alabama’s Player of the Week by Alabama’s coaches for four different games in 2020. Additionally, he was voted Alabama’s Special Teams Player of the Week for three games by Alabama’s staff, won Thorpe’s Award’s Player of the Week once, and was named a PFF All-American honorable mention that same year. During the 2019 season, he had 28 tackles, one interception, three passes defended, one fumble recovery, and was named Alabama’s Special Teams Player of the Week by Alabama coaches. On special teams, Jobe led all Alabama players in 2019 with seven tackles. Even though Jobe did not get much playing time as a freshman in 2018, he did well when he did play. One of Jobe’s freshman highlights was recording one pass defended and two tackles during the National Championship game.
Jobe was a four-star recruit out of high school where he played for Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut. Jobe played at Cheshire Academy because he was ruled too old to play at his high school in Miami, Florida during his senior year. He had originally committed to the University of Miami but flipped to the University of Alabama.

Bottom Line on Josh Jobe
Jobe is a talented player but he is very raw and any NFL team that drafts him will want him to become more polished before inserting him in a starting lineup. Some analysts have even said that Jobe would be better suited as a safety in the NFL rather than a cornerback. Although Jobe does not have great speed, he can accelerate quickly. Jobe explained that he had to play soft his senior year due to an injury he played through. Despite the explanation, an injury can sometimes be a red flag for teams.
Jobe’s former teammate, Dylan Moses, is a prime example of a player whose draft stock decreased due to playing through injury. Because Moses did not play as well as expected in his final year at Alabama, he went undrafted, despite the injury excuse. And Jobe’s injury may affect Jobe’s draft stock as well. He is definitely NFL material, but will not enter the NFL as a starter. Expect Jobe to be selected late in the draft.
