A passenger of a car was fatally injured and four others were hurt overnight when the vehicle struck a pole on the South Side in Gresham neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m., a white Chrysler 300 that was reported stolen was headed south in the 7700 block of South Vincennes Avenue when it struck a pole, police said. A passenger of the Chrysler was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others, including the driver also were injured.
The driver, 19, suffered a broken femur and hip, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in serious condition. Another man, 18, suffered lacerations was taken to the same hospital and listed in fair condition. A 22-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and listed in serious condition. A fourth person, who would not cooperate with officers, suffered a broken femur and also was taken to the same medical center and listed in serious condition, police said.
Weapons were recovered from the vehicle and charges were pending.
