Warriors Trade Rumors: Team Searching for a Big Man

January 9, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Nikola Vucevic is seen as a prime trade target for the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors are having a tough season. After a blazing hot 12-3 start they are now officially .500 after losing in the Heat vs Warriors game Tuesday night. At 18-18 and barely hanging onto the last spot for the play-in Tournament, it is starting to look like the Warriors are headed for another wasted chance at maximizing Stephen Curry’s prime. Recent trade rumors are that the Warriors have been on the market for an upgrade. They have been linked to names like Jimmy Butler, but a new ESPN report by Marc Spears says that the team is more likely searching for a big man on the trade market rather than going for Butler.

Warriors Trade Rumors: Team Searching for a Big Man

Warriors Trade Rumors

The trade talks will continue as long as the Warriors continue to struggle. Coach Steve Kerr recently spoke on the team’s major issues.

He said, “We’re way at the bottom of the league in layups and free throws. It is personnel-based.”

The Warriors already made one trade this season to try and fix some of these issues. The Dennis Schroder trade brought in a slashing guard with defensive capabilities. However, the Warriors are one of the smallest teams in the league. Now, a new rumor is out saying that the Warriors are potentially on the lookout for a big man to upgrade their size.

Warriors Vucevic Trade

Since this summer it has been rumored that the team is looking to upgrade the talent on their roster. They need to get Curry a little more support. Names like Butler, Paul George, and Lauri Markkanen have all been linked to the Warriors at one point or another. According to Marc Spears, however, instead of going after a player like Butler, they are looking for more size.

The first name that comes to mind as a quality big man that would instantly upgrade the Warriors offense, is Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic is putting up another quietly amazing season in Chicago and remains available on the trade market. Partly due to his talent, the Bulls have been unable to properly start the rebuild they should have started years ago. Vucevic’s contract has made it somewhat difficult to move him, but the Warriors could be desperate enough to take the risk. His scoring and playmaking would make him the perfect stretch five to play along with Draymond Green and Curry.

As far as big men go, the Warriors Vucevic trade rumor has been the juiciest. He isn’t the only big man who could potentially help the Warriors if they chose to make another trade before the NBA trade deadline.

Other Potential Big Man Targets

Centers like Kelly Olynyk and Clint Capela are rumored to be available. If the Warriors want to bring in a steady veteran for more depth, they are options. Walker Kessler was rumored to be available if the Warriors wanted to skew younger and look for upside. But now the Jazz have indicated he may not be in the market. Regardless, there are some options for the Warriors to get some size this NBA trade deadline. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like any will move the needle greatly and put the Warriors back in contention. Even the loftiest Warriors trade might not save their season.
