For the past few years, Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen has said a lot of negative things about his longtime teammate Michael Jordan. It has been sad to see as the Chicago Bulls legends paired up to help the team win six championships. On a recent podcast, Pippen decided to take a shot at the player who is most often brought up in GOAT conversations along with Jordan, none other than LeBron James.
Scottie Pippen Takes Jab At LeBron James On Recent Podcast
Pippen Not A Fan Of LeBron’s Ring Chasing
The 59-year-old Pippen was a recent guest on the PBD Podcast hosted by Patrick Bet-David. The podcast episode is over two hours long and was posted on YouTube on Friday, January 17. It has already reached more than 216,000 views as of early Sunday afternoon. The two went over numerous topics, and of course, a lot of the talk involved Jordan. The current 40-year-old superstar LeBron James was also brought up. This was a brief sample of what was said between the two of them.
Scottie Pippen: ‘My success as a team is more successful than LeBron. I got six rings.”
Patrick Bet-David: “Okay, so then if I talk to an NBA owner and I want to find an all-around player to be my number one, do you think the average owner is going to pick you or LeBron?”
Pippen: “I don’t know.”
Bet-David: “Got it, okay.”
Pippen: “Do you want individual accolades or do you want championships? Because I didn’t chase mine.”
Now that has long been a criticism of James by those looking to disparage what has happened in his career. It’s also been a criticism of Kevin Durant. LeBron famously teamed up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat where he won two of his four championships. He later went back to the Cleveland Cavaliers to join Kyrie Irving (and soon after, Kevin Love), and now is on the Lakers paired up with Anthony Davis.
It can also be said that Pippen had no need to chase championships because he already had Jordan by his side. He did later team up with Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley with the Houston Rockets, although the three of them were in the latter portion of their careers.
Had A Career That Was Certainly Hall Of Fame Worthy
While Pippen was often overshadowed by his more famous teammate Jordan (and why many believe Pippen’s shots at Jordan are due to jealousy all these years later), he certainly was a marvelous player. In 17 seasons, the 6-foot-8 forward made seven All-Star Games, seven All-NBA teams, and 10 All-Defensive teams. He was twice the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year and finished third in MVP voting in 1993-94. Pippen was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team and was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2010.
His son, Scotty Pippen Jr., is a current player of the Memphis Grizzlies. The 24-year-old was actually teammates with LeBron on the Lakers in his rookie season of 2022-23. Pippen Jr. appeared in six games that season.
