The Oklahoma City Thunder have plenty of draft picks that they have acquired over the next few years. However in the 2025 NBA draft, the Brooklyn Nets hold the title for most draft picks. Over the past few years, the Nets amassed picks from different teams, and this year, it may pay out.
One Team Has Five 2025 Draft Picks, and It’s Not the Thunder
Right now, without any trades heading into the 2025 NBA draft, the Brooklyn Nets have five draft picks. They have four first-round picks and one second-round pick.
While three of their picks are in the 20s, the 2025 NBA draft is one of the deepest in recent years. Many experts believe that there will be quality role players after the lottery. With three picks in the 20s, the Nets can target several players, or trade some picks to move up in the draft. Currently, they are also projected to have the sixth overall pick, although that can change with the lottery.
The Nets Can Finally Draft a Quality Player
Here is a fun fact. The Brooklyn Nets haven’t picked in the lottery since the 2010 NBA draft. The last time they picked in the lottery, they selected Derrick Favors with the third pick.
Looking at their draft history, they have selected good players with higher picks, but they have traded them instantly. For example, they have drafted both Saddiq Bey and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, but they traded them before they played a game for them. Those two quality role players would do wonders for their current roster.
Last year, the Nets didn’t even have a draft pick. If they do not jump up in the lottery, they can still get a quality player at sixth overall.
Breakdown of Brooklyn Nets 2025 Draft Picks
As said before, the Nets have five draft picks in the upcoming draft, four of them in the first round. They have their own pick, slotted at No. 6 at the moment. Then, they will select No. 20, a pick they have coming up from the Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets are getting the 26th pick, coming from New York from the Mikal Bridges trade. And finally, they are receiving the 27th pick, coming from the Houston Rockets.
In the second round, they have their own pick, which will fall at #36. With so many picks between 20 and 36, the Nets can package a few of those to move up in the draft if they want to.
Can the Nets Turn Things Around in a Single Offseason?
The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of draft picks in the summer to turn things around. After trading Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving a few seasons ago, Brooklyn has managed to get plenty of assets and position themselves as a player in free agency.
If they want to go all-in, they can sign two max players, and trade some of their assets for another star. The problem is there are not many free agents available on the market. Most of the stars with a player option will either exercise it or sign a longer deal. They can try to throw money at players like Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga, but those two are not difference makers that can turn a team around.
