Through seven full NBA seasons, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has accomplished a lot. Before turning 27, Tatum is a five-time All-Star, a four-time All-NBA selection, a one-time Eastern Conference Finals MVP, and an NBA Champion. Additionally, he is a perennial MVP candidate and will go down as one of the all-time greats in Celtics history. There is very little Tatum has not done in the NBA. However, there is one specific accomplishment that Tatum reveals might never happen.
Earlier this year, lots of buzz around the NBA Draft was where Bronny James, son of LeBron James, would end up. Ultimately, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. With this pick, history was made as LeBron and Bronny became the first-ever father-son pair of teammates in the NBA. This has led many to question whether Tatum and his son, Deuce, are next in line. In a recent interview with Khari Arnold of NBA.com, Tatum said “It’s too early to tell” if playing alongside his son is a realistic possibility.
“For one, I think that is the coolest thing ever. To just see pictures from LeBron’s first couple of years in the league and having Bronny with him all the time and on the court to now share these moments together. I think it’s a testament to their relationship, the longevity of LeBron’s career and to Bronny. There are only about 5,000 people to ever make it into the NBA and Bronny is one of them. A father and son playing in the NBA is something special that I never thought I would see. As far as me and Deuce, I don’t know. A lot of things would have to go right for that to happen. It’s too early to tell,” Tatum said.

Jayson Tatum’s NBA Season So Far
With the possibility of Deuce playing in the NBA over a decade away, Tatum’s priority is on the present. In his first season as an NBA champion, the Duke alum is once again looking like an MVP candidate. Through 14 games, Tatum is averaging 29.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals. Additionally, he is shooting 46.1% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc. In large part due to Tatum’s presence, the Celtics are 11-3. Only the 15-0 Cleveland Cavaliers have a better record in the East.
Tatum’s season is incredibly crucial for the Celtics as they are not at full health. Kristaps Porzingis, who suffered a rare leg injury during the NBA Finals, has yet to make his season debut. Additionally, Jaylen Brown has already missed four games this season due to injury. Regardless, Tatum has kept the Celtics afloat as they still look like legitimate championship contenders once again.
The Last Word
Though not impossible, it will prove very difficult for Tatum and his son to become teammates in the NBA. Still, there is no denying that it would be an incredible achievement for both of them regardless. Until it becomes a legitimate possibility, Tatum will aim to add to his resume and build a long-lasting legacy in Boston.
