Creighton junior transfer Pop Isaacs will be headed back to Texas. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Isaacs has committed to Houston, a program that made a run to the 2025 NCAA Championship game before falling to Florida. The 6-foot-2 guard spent the first two seasons of his college career with Texas Tech, where he was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team and the 2023-24 All-Big 12 third team.
Unfortunately for Isaacs, his talent on the court isn’t the only reason he’s a high-profile transfer. In 2024, he was faced with a civil lawsuit that accused him of sexual assault in an incident with a minor (h/t ESPN reporter Myron Medcalf). Initially, Texas Tech released a statement about the allegations, saying that “ based upon the information, Pop Isaacs remains in good standing, and there is no reason to withhold him from University activities, including basketball competition.
The case against Isaacs was ultimately dismissed.

In 2024-25, Isaacs averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game; all career-highs. Isaacs also converted a career-high 38.3 percent of his 3-point attempts despite a 60.0 percent 3-point attempt rate, underscoring his prowess as an outside shooter. It was his second career season shooting at least 37 percent from 3.

However, Isaacs was only able to suit up for eight games before sustaining a season-ending hip injury that required surgery. It would be the second time the Isaacs underwent surgery on his hip in a calendar year. According to CBS Sports reporter Matt Norlander, he “was playing through discomfort in the preseason… and the pain only continued to get worse as November went along.” He subsequently became eligible for a medical redshirt.
Isaac’s final outing with the Blue Jays saw him tally 27 points (6-9 from 3), seven rebounds, and four assists. It was his third time scoring 25+ points in a five-game stretch. That five-game span also saw him record 5+ assists on three occasions.
He should fit right in with the Cougars. In 2024-25, Houston ranked fourth in the NCAA in 3-point percentage (.394) and 39th in total made 3s (326). Within the Big 12 conference, they ranked 1st in 3-point percentage (.386) and seventh in total made 3s (149).
With fifth-year senior LJ Cryer likely to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft, his addition becomes that much more important. Cryer, 6-foot-1, led Houston in points per game (15.7) and 3-point percentage (.424) last season. If there’s any player that can step into his shoes, it’s Isaacs.
