CHICAGO (WGN) — After all six of the Chicago Bulls championship banners were removed due to damage from a rock concert, they have reappeared in the rafters at the United Center earlier than expected, according to the team.
In a statement released to WGN News, the Bulls said, “The cleaning and repairs to the Chicago Bulls championship banners were completed earlier than expected, and they have been rehung. We look forward to finishing the season with our championship banners back home in the rafters of the United Center with our fans.”
According to the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe, the Bulls’ championship banners were taken down after a March 8 concert by the Chicago-founded rock band Disturbed.
A statement from the United Center later noted the banners sustained “minor damage” during the band’s performance that night.
“Following Saturday night’s concert, United Center staff discovered minor damage to the Bulls championship banners that hang in the rafters,” the United Center statement said at the time. “United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners, however, we don’t anticipate them being back in place for the remainder of this season. We anticipate them being back in place next season.”
Other banners displayed near the NBA championship banners, which include retired numbers, division and conference championships, were not damaged during the March concert and remained on display.
