This isn’t the news anyone wants to hear.
The White Sox announced on Wednesday afternoon that third baseman Yoan Moncada has been placed on the 10-day IL with a left adductor strain. His estimated recovery time is 3-6 months.
Moncada suffered the injury while running to first base in the second inning of Tuesday night’s game. The injury to his left adductor is the same one that Eloy Jimenez suffered, though it appears that the third baseman’s setback is far more serious given his timeline.
Moncada, who is in the final year of his five-year, $70 million contract, is 11-for-39 (.282) with three doubles, a triple, five walks and four runs scored in 11 games this season.
Moncada will be the third Sox player already to go down with an injury this season as Luis Robert Jr. (hip flexor strain) and Jimenez (adductor) both landed on the injured list last week. These three have had a fair share of injuries in their tenure with the Sox, including Moncada’s back injury last April (almost a year to the day) that caused him to miss a month of baseball.
As part of the corresponding move, the White Sox promoted outfielder Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte. The 25-year-old has gotten off to a strong start this season. In eight games for the Knights, the lefty is hitting .321/.375/.500 (9-for-28) with one homer and four driven in. After slashing just .216/.257/.314 in Chicago during his rookie campaign last season, Colas will be looking to prove that he can stick at the major leagues.
This is a developing story. We will continue to update as information is provided.
