Another piece of the White Sox coaching staff has been revealed.
Newly appointed manager Will Venable announced on Tuesday’s episode of Foul Territory that Walker McKinven will be hired as the team’s new bench coach.
“
McKinven, 35, has served in various roles within the Milwaukee Brewers organization since 2016. He got his start as a coordinator of Advance Scouting and Manager of Major League Strategy in the front office before working his way up to the major league coaching staff. He has most recently served as Associate Pitching, Catching and Strategy coach from 2021-23 and then as the club’s Run Prevention Coordinator this past season.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy on X, McKinven has been an integral part of Milwaukee’s daily game planning as well as recent success in developing and improving catchers within the organization. This is a significant addition for the White Sox, as the team prepares for fourth-ranked prospect Edgar Quero to make his MLB debut in 2025, sharing duties behind the plate with Korey Lee.
In addition to McKinven, we know that former Orioles co-hitting coach Ryan Fuller will be a part of the organization. Fuller was recently named the team’s Director of Hitting, a new role that is expected to be the hitting equivalent of Brian Bannister’s position on the pitching side. Bannister, 43, was hired as the senior advisor to pitching in September 2023, working with players throughout the entire organization.
As we learn more about the makeup of Venable’s coaching staff, we will continue to provide updates.
