The post White Sox Trade Rumors: Crochet, Fedde, Dodgers Blockbuster, Pham appeared first on Sox On 35th.
With the MLB Draft over and the 2024 Trade Deadline just about 10 days away, the hot stove for rumors is starting to heat up. To no one’s surprise, with so few teams truly selling right now, the White Sox remain a hot topic of conversation.
This morning, as he does every Sunday, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY released his “Sunday Notebook” with quite a few tidbits of information pertaining to the White Sox. Some of the highlights include:
- The Cardinals are very interested in Erick Fedde
- The Yankees are now willing to include top prospect Spencer Jones in trade offers
- The Phillies are NOT interested in Tommy Pham, but are seeking an outfielder
- The Dodgers and Sox have discussed a trade including all of Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr, and Michael Kopech
With the Cardinals still hanging around in the NL Central at 51-47 and in possession of a Wild Card spot, it makes sense that they would begin to target additional help. Fedde, who still has one year remaining on his deal, should fetch the White Sox a pretty solid return, and players of interest could include INF Thomas Saggese, OF Chase Davis, or OF Victor Scott. As previously mentioned by multiple outlets, the White Sox will be looking to target positional prospects in return for the starting pitchers they deal at this deadline.
The Yankees’ sudden interest in including Spencer Jones in trades might have something to do with his struggles in Double-A this season, as he is hitting just .238/.316/.403 in 342 plate appearances that include an alarming 37.1% strikeout rate. Nightengale does go on to mention in his report that the White Sox are holding out for a bigger package from either the Yankees or another team, so Jones alone might not be enough to entice the White Sox to move Crochet to New York.
Another target for the White Sox could be Roderick Arias, a 19-year-old infielder who has seen some struggles this season, hitting just .220/.321/.358 in Low-A ball. He was the 86th-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, to begin the season.
The report on Tommy Pham is interesting, as previous reports had mentioned the Phillies as one of the teams where it made quite a lot of sense to pursue the right-handed hitting outfield. It remains quite likely that Pham is moved somewhere, however, even if it isn’t to Philadelphia.
And, finally, the Dodgers blockbuster trade sounds like a fun idea but remains rather improbable, as very few teams possess the prospect capital to ensure that two star pieces in Crochet and Robert Jr. yield an appropriate combined return. The White Sox would do far better to separate these players into two different trades, if they are set on trading both.
If we are to believe Nightengale, however, Garrett Crochet will continue to be the most talked-about player over the next few weeks as teams start their hunt for October. Whether or not the White Sox are able to capitalize will come to fruition in the next 10 days.
