Sounds silence Knights, Shuckers shock Barons, Drive dominate Dash, while Montgomery’s bat and Brizuela’s arm shine in Ballers’ victory
Nashville Sounds 6, Charlotte Knights 3 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Charlotte Knights continue to drive the struggle bus as they lose to the Nashville Sounds and drop their record to 6-9. After a promising start to the season, the Knights have hit a rough patch, and tonight’s game was no exception.
Righthander Chris Rodriguez took the mound for Charlotte but quickly found himself in trouble. He gave up a three-spot in the top of the second inning, beginning by walking the bases loaded with two outs. Jimmy Herron then delivered a two-run single, and a wild pitch from Rodriguez allowed another run to score, giving Nashville an early 3-0 advantage. The Sounds extended their lead in the top of the fourth when Andruw Monasterio hit an oppo taco to center, making it 4-0.
The Knights finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of a solo shot by Tristan Gray. However, Nashville responded in the top of the sixth against reliever Chase Plymell, who replaced Rodriguez with two outs in the fourth. Plymell allowed two runs on a double and two singles, pushing the Sounds’ lead to 6-1. Trey McGough entered in the seventh and hurled three scoreless innings to wrap up the pitching side.

Charlotte managed to manufacture another run in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases juiced and one out, Colson Montgomery singled to right field, his second hit of the night, driving in a run. Then, in a last-ditch effort in the bottom of the ninth, the Knights attempted a comeback with two outs. Brandon Drury walked and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Edgar Quero, who just keeps mashing, singled to drive in Drury. Quero also advanced to second on defensive indifference, but Tim Elko grounded out to end the game, sealing Nashville’s 6-3 victory.

Birmingham Barons, Biloxi Shuckers (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Starter Wikelman González got hit right out of the gate. He surrendered three runs in the top of the first. Two walks and two doubles provided the Shuckers with an early 3-0 advantage. The 23-year-old settled in after the rough first and held Biloxi scoreless for the next three innings.
The Barons answered with one tally in their half of the frame. Rikuu Nishida, who reached on a throwing error to start things off, stole home. Nishida is just a dude who makes things happen. But, unfortunately for the Barons, that would be it for the offense.

The Barons’ arm barn couldn’t hold the Shuckers’ offense down, and the trio of Gil Luna, Tyler Davis, and Peyton Pallette surrendered one run each. Birmingham is now 5-4 on the season.
Greenville Drive 8, Winston-Salem Dash 3 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Dash threatened early in the top of the first inning with a walk by Sam Antonacci and a two-out single from Jackson Appel, but they just could not execute. In the bottom of the frame, the Drive took a 1-0 lead after starter Seth Keener issued a walk, tossed a wild pitch, and gave up an RBI single.
The Dash had another scoring opportunity in the top of the second when Arxy Hernández led off with a double, but he, too, was left stranded. The Drive then extended their lead in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs, highlighted by a three-run four-bagger off the bat of Yophery Rodriguez, giving the Drive a 5-0 lead.
Winston-Salem got on the board in the top of the third inning when Ryan Galanie hit a solo blast, cutting the deficit to 5-1. The Dash added another run in the top of the fifth when Alec Makarewicz and Caden Connor hit back-to-back singles, and an error by Greenville’s Marvin Alcantara allowed Makarewicz to score, making it 5-2.
The Dash continued to chip away in the top of the sixth. Hernández led off with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 5-3. However, their comeback efforts were ultimately unsuccessful as the Drive went on to score four more runs off the bullpen in the later innings. Three tallies off reliever Tommy Vail and one off Joseph Yabbour secured a decisive 9-3 victory for Greenville.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6, Columbia Fireflies 2 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
On a gusty $2 Tuesday in Kannapolis, Ricardo Brizuela made his second start. The 21-year-old isn’t overwhelming with his power as his pitches move well and miss bats. That was the case tonight as the righty earned a no-decision by allowing only one run on four hits with one walk and five Ks over 4 1⁄3 frames.
Kanny got on the board early when, with two outs and the bases empty, Braden Montgomery launched a Baller bomb. In the bottom of the third, Kannapolis extended their lead after back-to-back walks to Nathan Archer and Javier Mogollon led to a successful double steal. Caleb Bonemer then cleared the bases with a triple, and Montgomery drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, making it 4-0.

Columbia worked a tally in the top of the fourth with a solo jack by Ramón Ramírez, cutting the Ballers’ lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the inning, Jordan Sprinkle extended his on-base streak to seven games with a bunt single and his ninth stolen base of the season.
Pierce George entered the game with two on and one out in the fifth, and the 21-year-old successfully shut down the Fireflies. George also pitched himself out of a jam in the top of the sixth after allowing a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Jack Young came on in relief in the top of the seventh. After recording an out, he issued back-to-back walks, and a fielding error by Sprinkle allowed an unearned run to score, closing the gap to 4-2.
However, the Ballers answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh. Montgomery led off with a double and was driven home by Lyle Miller-Green’s triple, extending the lead to 5-2. Miller-Green eventually came around to score on a fielding error, which solidified Kannapolis’s 6-2 victory.
