This season, the Chicago White Sox introduced the content creator program, an initiative to allow content creators the opportunity to experience working in a live professional sports setting. The program’s goal is to feature a unique perspective of the team, ballpark, and fan experience at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Wendell Davis Jr., a Chicago-based visual artist who has a passion for photography, writing, and traveling says the opportunities have been nothing short of amazing.
“Growing up, I was an athlete,” said Davis. “I love sports. I played football, baseball, and basketball. Even just having a chance to see professional baseball games was an eye-opening experience, so to be here now shooting for the Sox is amazing.”
As an athlete turned creative, Davis’s love for sport evolved into new mediums. Learning a variety of different arts ranging from photography, sculpturing, drawing and visual thinking, Davis diversified his skillset to be able to produce whatever content he sets his mind on.
“It’s really been a positive just to go in there and really get free reign,” said the Chicago-based photographer. “A lot of the time when you work with certain teams it depends on what they want you to do that could kind of limit your creativity. The Sox allowed me to go in there and accomplish all my goals.”
The content creator program thrives on allowing artists creative freedom. It allows the artist to truly showcase their style and brand.
The White Sox will continue the content creator program going forward with the continued goal of empowering individuals and allowing them the opportunity to capture a game by telling a different story from their perspective and helping them find their way into the sports photography field.
